US healthcare debacle continues
Monday, March 22, 2010
As everyone not hiding under a rock is aware, the US House of Representatives has narrowly voted in favour of President Obama’s healthcare bill. The bill will hugely increase government intervention in the US healthcare and health insurance industries, while stopping short of a complete government-run or compulsory insurance system. This has envoked strong criticism from both pro-intervention and anti-intervention camps, while embedding the problems caused by the already overly-regulated healthcare system. As Europe is often wrongly seen as a haven of state healthcare systems, last year IPN published a series of short articles from European experts, explaining what works and what doesn’t work on this side of the Atlantic.
For the latest on good reform to US healthcare, I recommend the Cato Institute’s dedicated website.
