United States

The United States is the world's leading innovator of new medicines, and as such exports widely both regionally and globally. It also imports and manufactures large quantities of generic medicines. The US imposes no tariffs on active ingredients, imported medicines or vaccines.

In 2006, the United States proposed with Switzerland and Singapore a new global trade deal to end tariffs on medicines and medical devices.
